Lately I have a fascination with death.

I have been drawn to face my own personal fears about death. What happened when I started researching death further really surprised me.

The more I started thinking about how I can prepare for my own death (even if its 50 years in the future), the more at peace I felt. This made me wonder – do we have death hanging over us all our lives?

Many other cultures and religions around the world embrace the concept of death and many followers of religions such as Buddhism and Hinduism spend most of their lives preparing for death through good deeds, meditations and devotion. They are at peace with death and view it as an opportunity to escape Samsara – the reincarnation cycle.

I will do a stand along article on why one may consider escaping samsara soon.

What I am realising is that death isn’t something to be feared, it can be seen as a wonderful and liberating opportunity. Death itself shouldn’t be unfamiliar to us, as we experience mini-forms of death all throughout our lives when faced with significant change. During such change, a part of us dies so that a new self can emerge. Death is simply change and change is inevitable.

What I know about change is that if we don’t embrace it by purposefully bringing about our own transformations towards some new level of enlightenment, then change will be thrust upon us whether we are ready or not. We have all experiences some level of unsettling change that took us by surprise, and as a result no wonder we then develop a strong desire not to have any change again. Instead of retreating, it makes sense more sense to get into the flow of life and change by preparing for it and letting go of trying control all that cannot be controlled.

So how can we be prepared for change, mini death or death itself and get into that flow? We start by contemplating what it means to die. Here are a few questions you can ponder on:

  • Think about how heavy you are with burdens and attachments and look at how you can release these now to feel lighter and less burdened at the time of transitions.
  • Think about the reincarnation cycle and whether you would like to return here for more growth or whether you have a deep desire to liberate yourself from that cycle.
  • Research further into death to discover what one can do while living to make death an easier and fearless process.
  • Contemplate how can use the idea of the inevitability of death to help us live more fully now?

All the same contemplations have lead me to create a new division in my work called Threshold Healing. This is about facing life’s mini deaths and our ultimate death to make it a smoother process and help us live more fully while alive.

I believe this will be the new era of healing to ensure that death is not something that hangs over our shoulders in life, but provides an opportunity for living fully within the flow of life now and is then met with curiosity and fearlessness.

Keep an eye on the Threshold Healing page for more information. I look forward to introducing many new concepts in this field and share my own personal discoveries and techniques in a simple and easy to apply way.
